Niagara’s automated speed cameras, deployed as part of the Vision Zero project for pedestrian safety, faced vandalism over the weekend.
The camera at Station Street in West Lincoln, one of four installed in community safety zones, was targeted.
Since the program’s launch in September, there have been six cases of camera vandalism.
Scott Fraser, the region’s associate director of transportation planning, mentioned that the vendor responsible for the cameras will repair the damages, with the West Lincoln camera expected to be fixed in a few days.
Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and will take further action if necessary.
