With a long weekend coming up, many in Niagara are expected to be on the water.
Niagara Regional Police Sergeant Jon Pilkington says if you plan on doing this, you should always check marine reports to make sure it’s safe to take a boat, canoe or any other watercraft out.
Marine reports are released daily by Environment Canada and updated regularly. You can find them here.
He adds that you should always have proper fitting lifejackets with you as well.
Pilkington adds that one thing you can do to keep waterways safe this weekend, and all summer, is not drinking and boating. He says it carries the same consequences as driving drunk, and can result in your driver’s license being suspended.
