After an extensive global recruitment process, Arja Vainio-Mattila has been appointed Brock’s new Provost and Vice-President, Academic.
She has some history with Brock University, having filled a sabbatical role over 20 years ago. She says the region has changed lots since then.
Since working at Brock as an Assistant Professor in the Environmental Institute in the mid-late 90s, she’s kept track of how the school, and the region, have been doing.
Vainio-Mattila holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Turku in Finland, as well as a Master of Philosophy in Geography from the School of Oriental and African Studies in the UK.
Brock University President Lesley Rigg says Vainio-Mattila’s deep experience in strategic development and commitment to community engagement will serve the university well for years to come.
