Police have made an arrest in connection to the sudden death of a two year old.
Last November, police responded to a call after a two year old was found without vital signs in a family home in Niagara Falls.
A postmortem found the child’s death was the result of fentanyl and Bromazolam toxicity, prompting an investigation from the homicide unit and the Opioid Enforcement and Education Unit. Niagara Police say Bromazolam is a benzodiazepine that is not prescribed to persons in Canada. Benzodiazepines have been found mixed in the region’s illicit fentanyl supply, its toxic effects have been known to act synergistically with opioids in terms of the effects on respiratory suppression.
Yesterday, a 40-year-old woman was charged with possession of fentanyl and cocaine, as well as criminal negligence causing death. Her identity has not been released to protect the identity of the deceased and their next of kin.
