
The province has announced it will match the Federal government’s two-month sales tax holiday.
A statement from Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy announced the Doug Ford government will remove the PST from items not currently covered by existing provincial rebates.
The province advises the tax break is expected to provide close to $1 billion in additional relief for Ontario families. The tax holiday will run from Dec. 14 to Feb. 15 of next year.
Last week, Trudeau announced a tax holiday that applies to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) across Canada. The government says it’s meant to help make life more affordable when buying things like groceries, restaurant meals, takeout and fast food, beer and wine, essentials like children’s clothing, footwear and diapers, and toys.
