25-28369 Suspect
Niagara Regional Police are investigating a fatal crash in St. Catharines.
Police say around 10:30pm yesterday, a black Audi S5 and a grey Chevrolet Malibu collided in the intersection of Welland Avenue and Ontario Street.
Police say the Audi was stolen roughly an hour earlier from a plaza in the area of Scott Street and Niagara Street, after the owner left it unlocked and running with a passenger inside. The suspect threatened the passenger, who got out of the car.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a 31-year-old from St. Catharines, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The driver of the stolen Audi was seen fleeing on foot, and police believe they may have suffered an injury to their head, resulting in blood loss.
Detectives from the District Criminal Investigation Branch are working with members of the Forensic Services Unit on the investigation.
Anyone who may have dash cam footage in the area around that time is asked to reach out to police.
