For the second consecutive day, Liberal Leader Mark Carney has been diverted from his campaign duties to address U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
In his capacity as prime minister, Carney will virtually meet with Canada’s premiers today to discuss the country’s response to Trump’s latest trade measures.
Earlier this week, the president signed an executive order imposing a 25% levy on all automobile and auto part imports — a move that resulted in Carney stating the ‘Old relationship between Canada and the US is over’.
Carney promised to bring retaliatory measures, reduce internal trade barriers and pivot Canada’s economy away from reliance on the U.S., and that more will be announced on April 2nd, when the new auto tariffs are set to begin.
