After at least one confirmed tornado in Fort Erie Monday afternoon, many residents are wondering why no watch or warning was issued by Environment Canada.
Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says a big factor was how quickly conditions changed in the area.
Kimbell adds that even with the best forecasting systems, something as sudden as a tornado can happen without warning.
Sims Avenue resident Liz Reddon suffered major damage to her property, as the roof from the RONA warehouse on Garrison Road ended up in her backyard.
She says she never saw a warning, but knew something was coming after seeing social media posts from Stevensville.
There are currently no reports of any injuries as a result of the tornado, while the Northern Tornado Project is investigating the possibility of multiple tornados.
Similar conditions were reported in Stevensville, Fort Erie and Buffalo, leading officials to think there may have been multiple.
Power had been knocked out for numerous residents in the area, but Canadian Niagara Power says everyone had the lights back on by around 6:00pm Monday night.
