The 2025 shipping season will officially get underway this weekend with a Top Hat ceremony in Port Colborne this coming weekend.
Port Colborne Mayor Bill Steele will welcome the first downbound vessel on Saturday with a top hat to mark the occasion, as is tradition for the Welland Canal.
A livestream of the event will be available at the city’s Facebook and Youtube pages, while there will be breakfast available for any residents that want to attend the ceremony.
